South Rovers footballer Tom Bowman will undergo a fourth operation in Melbourne Monday as he continues to fight a superbug infection.

His father Michael says Tom is now out of ICU and on the medical ward and although he has improved there is still a long way to go.

He says following Monday's fourth operation the family is hoping to know more about where Tom is at in his battle with the superbug infection.

Tom was struck down with the infection early last week, and after an operation in Warrnambool was flown to Melbourne.
