Shire CEO announces retirement.
Moyne Shire Chief Executive Officer David Madden has announced his retirement after seven years in the position.
Mr Madden said that the decision to retire was made after a recent holiday to the mid north coast of NSW.
“The trip in a 1974 Kombi was on my bucket list: I’ve decided to make that list one of my priorities. “Now is the time to travel more and learn about life away from work.”
After seven years with Moyne Shire and over 35 years in local government, Mr Madden said he was proud to reflect on both the achievements and the challenges overcome during his tenure.
“The financial position of council is now stable and will remain so for many years to come. “I am pleased that the shire has coped so well with the pressure of rate capping and other financial challenges, yet continues to deliver a range of services and infrastructure that the community expects,” said Mr Madden.
“I have had the privilege of overseeing an organisation with teams of well qualified, skilful and passionate staff. “I also acknowledge the efforts of the councillors past and present. We are fortunate to have had strong community leaders. There have been robust discussions and differing opinions, which has led to us achieving some amazing outcomes.”
Moyne Mayor Cr Mick Wolfe thanked Mr Madden for his significant contribution as council’s CEO. “Mr Madden had made financial sustainability a priority during his tenure, ensuring the council is now well positioned in relation to its finances and the state of its assets and will be debt-free next year.
“Mr Madden established an excellent working relationship with all the councillors. This and the good governance practices he established have contributed to the stability of Moyne Shire. “On behalf of council, I wish Mr Madden all the best in his retirement after a very successful and long career in local government.”
Mr Madden started work at the Shire of Stawell in 1984 as a junior engineer focusing on roads and bridges. He moved to the Shire of Newham and Woodend in 1990 as deputy shire engineer and then became the director of technical services. In 1995 he took up the position of director of technical operations at Golden Plains Shire.
Then in 2011, he moved to Port Fairy to become Chief Executive Officer of Moyne Shire.
Mr Madden will finish in his position on 4 May 2018.
